LATEST NEWS

LAST UPDATE: 19 March 2024

Like all sectors of the health care system, we are currently working over capacity. We are having to triage referrals, reserving urgent appointments for sight threatening conditions.

FOR PATIENTS

REFERRALS FOR NEW AND EXISTING PATIENTS

We are currently experiencing a high volume of referrals for patient bookings. Upon receipt of a referral it is assessed and an appointment offered.

If your condition requires URGENT CARE, your referrer will usually call us to make your booking, OR, mark their referral as urgent. Once received, your referral is assessed by the doctor you have been referred to at Western Eye and they advise our staff of an appropriate appointment timeframe.

  • For all NEW patients, or patients who we have not seen for 2+ years, we need to be in possession of your referral prior to making your booking.

  • Your referrer can usually send this to us electronically. Please ask them to do this on your behalf.

  • Or, you may email your referral to us at info@westerneye.com.au

  • Should you feel your condition is more urgent than the appointment you have been offered, please present back to your Optometrist for a routine check, and if deemed more urgent, they will advise us accordingly.

  • If we are unable to accommodate an urgent appointment we will advise you and your referrer of this and you may be redirected to your local emergency department (depending on the seriousness of your eye condition).

ONGOING COVID INFORMATION

COVID, cold and flu is now part of daily life, therefore it is vital that we keep our doctors and staff fit and well in order to maintain good staffing levels so that we can continue to provide our service.

We would like to assure you that we continue to offer ophthalmic services in the best and safest way possible for all involved and have based our decision relating to appointments on prioritising the health and safety for everyone entering the practice.

When attending your appointment:

  • PLEASE WEAR A MASK IF YOU HAVE RECENTLY BEEN UNWELL. Please advise reception when you arrive so our staff may wear one, as required, for the safety and well being of everyone in the practice.

  • We have benefited from the use of masks however it is now a personal choice. Some of our Ophthalmic Assistants continue to wear masks, as do some of the doctors.

  • Ensure you comply with our screening criteria for the safety of all; in particular, you will need to reschedule should you have current or recent past cold/flu/gastro symptoms. Thank you for your understanding.

ONGOING COVID INFORMATION

Whilst COVID cases have diminished there is still COVID and flu in the community. Therefore it is vital that we keep our doctors and staff fit and well in order to maintain enough staff who are well so that we can continue to provide our service.

We would like to assure you that we continue to offer ophthalmic services in the best and safest way possible for all involved and have based our decision on prioritising the health and safety for everyone entering the practice.

If you have an URGENT referral, call the rooms on 9383 5353 and PRESS 1 to reach a staff member as a matter of priority to assist with a booking.

All three of our locations are open; Mosman Park, Karrinyup and Kalamunda and provide a safe face to face service for all patients.

The doctors continue to triage patient referrals for any urgency to ensure patients are adequately cared for.

If we are unable to accommodate a case in our rooms, the doctors also work in public eye clinics and patients can be referred there also.

Relevant safety precautions continue so that we provide a clean, safe environment for our staff, the doctors and our patients. Everyone’s welfare is of extreme importance.

See information on our COMMON CONDITIONS PAGE relating to chalazion.

We know that chalazions can cause significant discomfort and visual symptoms so would like to provide some guidance as there will probably be a wait time before we can offer an appointment.

Should you have any queries in the meantime, please do not hesitate to call the practice and speak with staff or the Practice Manager on 9383 5353 or, email info@westerneye.com.au or manager@westerneye.com.au depending on the nature of your query.

If you wish to email a referral, please send to referrals@westerneye.com.au for prompt attention.
